From the South East of Essex now based in Greater Manchester, Lici is a soulful solo function singer with a vast repertoire spanning all through the Golden Age right to the modern-day. She flawlessly mixes a pure, classic sound alongside contemporary chart hits with a special, vintage twist.

Lici grew up with the record player always spinning. When it wasn't singing along to Shakin' Stevens and Dean Martin at home, it was listening to Buddy Holly and Peggy Lee in the car. Lici quickly fell into love with the sound of the past and as a young child performer was often chosen to play roles to suit her old-soul, blues-infused voice, such as the tap-dancing Fizzy in Bugsy Malone! As she grew, she grew into a love of all things vintage.

Sat 2nd Nov        Joanna Lavelle

Local actress, Joanna Lavelle, returns to Whalley Village with three plays from Alan Bennett’s much-loved, Talking Heads series, which first appeared on the BBC in 1989.

In Lady of Letters, Joanna plays busy-body spinster, Irene Ruddock, who uses pen and paper to complain about what she perceives to be the misdoings of neighbours, companies - in fact anyone. But, she will also give praise when she thinks it's due, such as routine reminders from her opticians. Does her excessive correspondence mask loneliness in her life? There is delicious humour in Alan Bennett’s script, but also …?

In Soldiering On, Muriel bustles around looking after the guests at her husband’s funeral. She maintains a stiff upper lip and remains relentlessly cheerful, but is her life really this comfortable and familiar?

In Bed among the Lentils, Joanna reprises her role as Susan, a vicar's wife "suffocated by the expectations forced on her by her position." This performance is in tribute to the late Maggie Smith who first performed the role in the original Talking Heads series.

This amateur production of "A Lady of Letters" and "Soldiering On" is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. on behalf of Samuel French Ltd. www.concordtheatricals.co.uk
